Spelt Bread Recipe - Large!

Here's our personal favourite recipe for making a delicious light LARGE-size loaf of whole-grain spelt bread at home, either in a breadmaker or oven! Just click here or on image above :)

WHOLE-GRAIN LARGE SPELT LOAF in Breadmaker

Place the following ingredients in your breadmaker in this order:

  1. ) 3 tsp SureBake yeast (make sure to buy the red-lid jar from the supermarket)
  2. ) 450g whole-grain organic spelt flour
  3. ) 3 Tbsp gluten flour (buy a small bag of wheat gluten eg: "FreshLife" from supermarket in baking aisle)
  4. ) 1 Tbsp organic sugar (eg: coconut sugar)
  5. ) 25g vegetable oil (eg: sunflower)
  6. ) 1 tsp salt
  7. ) 340ml cold water

Turn your breadmaker on to LARGE sized loaf.
It takes approx 5 hours for the bread-making process.
Turn out on rack and as soon as it cools enjoy this yummy light loaf - not heavy at all!

 

WHOLE-GRAIN LARGE SPELT LOAF in Oven

Mix the following ingredients in your bowl:

  1. ) 3 tsp SureBake yeast (make sure to buy the red-lid jar from the supermarket)
  2. ) 450g whole-grain organic spelt flour
  3. ) 3 Tbsp gluten flour (buy a small bag of wheat gluten eg: "FreshLife" from supermarket in baking aisle)
  4. ) 1 Tbsp organic sugar (eg: coconut sugar)
  5. ) 25g vegetable oil (eg: sunflower)
  6. ) 1 tsp salt
  7. ) 340ml lukewarm water

Mix or knead for 10 minutes. 
Shape and place in LARGE sized bread tin - or 2 small tins.
Rise in warm, draft-free place until doubled in size (about 1 hour or longer).
Bake at 180 degrees C until golden brown (approx 35 min.)

Turn out on rack, and as soon as it cools enjoy this yummy light loaf - not heavy at all!
